香港大學（The University of Hong Kong），簡稱為港大（HKU），是一所位處中國香港特別行政區(qū)的公立研究型大學。其奠基于1910年3月16日 ，次年3月30日正式注冊成立，是香港歷史最悠久的高等教育機構(gòu)。建校初期，香港大學規(guī)模極小，自1912年3月11日正式開學，到1916年12月舉行首次畢業(yè)典禮，僅有23名畢業(yè)生。第二次世界大戰(zhàn)爆發(fā)，香港大學一度處于癱瘓狀態(tài)，1941年教學全面中止；1948年4月9日復校后，秩序重建與結(jié)構(gòu)轉(zhuǎn)型并舉，學校步入高速發(fā)展的黃金時期。

　　緣于殖民地的特殊性，香港大學自創(chuàng)校以來始終采用英語教學，其學術(shù)研究多可與歐美無縫對接、良性互動，也得益于此，在很長一段時間里，以醫(yī)學、商科、人文、政法等領(lǐng)域見長的香港大學都是中國高等教育界一面獨特的旗幟，享譽亞洲乃至世界。
